Ice Fishing by Evolution Gaming – Review

Alright guys, let’s talk about Ice Fishing, Evolution’s latest live casino game show. If you’ve been around the channel, you’ll know I’ve not been playing much live casino recently – mainly because slots have been stealing the show and, let’s be honest, Evolution have put out some absolute stinkers lately (Balloon Race, Marble Race, I’m looking at you).

But Ice Fishing? This one actually surprised me.

The Basics

Ice Fishing is a fast-paced wheel game. The main game is a 53-segment money wheel where you can land either:

  • Cash prizes on Leaf segments
  • Multipliers up to 10x
  • Or the real fun – one of the three Bonus games:
    • Lil’ Blues (3x to 100x)
    • Big Oranges (4x to 200x)
    • Huge Reds (10x to 500x)

That’s where the action really happens.

The Bonus Rounds

When you hit a Fish Bonus, you head off to the icy Arctic with the host who pretends to reel in your catch. Sometimes it’s a tiddler, sometimes they need cranes and helicopters to haul it in, and yes – there are penguins. Penguins, cranes, helicopters – what’s not to love?

Each fish has a multiplier attached, and this is where you can see some really juicy wins. In my session, I had Lil’ Blues with a 5x multiplier hit for £25 off a tiny 20p stake – that’s the kind of cheese we like.

Pace of Play

One thing I really rate about Ice Fishing is how quick the spins are. You’ve got about 7 seconds to get your bets down, and then you’re straight into the action. It does mean you’ve got to stay sharp, especially since the gambling commission decided to remove auto-play (don’t get me started – absolute disgrace), but the upside is you get through more rounds in less time.

The Feel of the Game

This game feels simple but effective. You don’t need endless side bets or overcomplicated features – it’s straight up: land a bonus, reel in a fish, hope it’s a monster. And because everyone in the bonus round wins the same thing, it feels fairer than some of the other game shows where you’re relying on about six different layers of RNG to hit anything decent.

The theme works too – clean visuals, decent animations, and yeah… even if the penguins don’t move (lazy penguins), the whole Arctic fishing vibe is spot on.

Verdict

Honestly? I’m a fan. Ice Fishing isn’t perfect – it still suffers without auto-play and there’s always that feeling of “is the digital wheel really fair?” – but as a low-stakes, fast-paced game show it’s actually one of their better releases in ages.

If you like Crazy Time or Monopoly but want something a bit simpler, this is well worth a go. Just don’t expect every fish to be a monster – you’ll get plenty of tiddlers along the way.

10p Gamer rating: 8.5/10
Simple, quick, and with enough potential to keep me coming back.
